The house was designed by Sydney Ernest Castle in 1924 for HS Pyne the Headmaster of Warwick School, and the plans for the building are kept in the Victoria and Albert museum. The house has been restored as a part of its listing by the current owners who have also modernised the property and added additional features. The house benefits from the grounds being restored to their original design with 3 defined garden areas and a side courtyard.
Upon entering, you are greeted with the magnificent vaulted hall, of which there is a painting in the lobby at the Royal Institute of British Architects. On the ground floor, there is a modern kitchen with 4-oven Aga and under floor heating. The kitchen has a door into the panelled dining room which in turn leads to the family room. In addition, and leading off from the grand hallway is a formal reception room with double aspect windows and a working fireplace (one of 7 fireplaces in the house).
Additional features include a wood store, utility area
and a downstairs cloakroom, also with under floor heating.
The first floor is accessed off the main or back staircases. The main staircase has a mezzanine landing which best showcases the restored original features of the house, including beautiful stained glass windows, and views over Richmond Park. From here, there is access to three double bedrooms of which the master bedroom has an additional dressing room as well as an en-suite bathroom and a private balcony facing the gardens and facing Richmond Park. The two further double bedrooms benefit from fitted wardrobes and the use of a family bathroom.
The second floor comprises a study and two more double bedrooms both with en-suites.
There is planning permission in place to build a new 3-storey annexe on the north side of the house, accessed via a new garden room off the existing kitchen. The existing detached garage has permission in place to be converted into a garden/study with shower room, leaving garaging at the front for a car. These new rooms create a central landscaped courtyard garden with the new buildings looking onto this courtyard. The 3-storey annexe has a basement deal for a gym and cinema room, with a studio above and guest suite with bedroom, living space and shower room on the top floor. The original house plus the extensions is predicted to be in the region of 7,000 sq ft (Gross Internal Area). There is also a carriageway driveway with space to park several cars.
