Welcome to Richmond

Richmond was founded in the 16th Century with the building of Richmond Palace by Henry VII.  The area is also closely connected to the reign of Elizabeth I, giving it historical significance.  A well-known borough with areas based both North and South of the river, Richmond feels slightly separated from the rush of London whilst maintaining good transport links.  Affluent and desirable, the area attracts professional families and high net worth individuals, with well-known musicians and actors living in the area.  The beautiful architecture remains unspoiled, with many tree lined roads of Victorian houses.  Large Georgian residences and Victorian villas can be found on Richmond Hill and Richmond Green.

  • Parks & recreation

Richmond is full of green areas: from the top of Richmond Hill you can see fields, pastures and the banks of the Thames and behind George Street is the peaceful Richmond Green, surrounded by fine Georgian houses.
The Museum of Richmond is located in Richmond’s Old Town Hall and hosts displays, rotating exhibitions, educational activities and events covering the history of the area.

Richmond Park is a magnificent green area and home to hundreds of fallow deer.  This royal park is the perfect place to spend a sunny day.

The Cricketers is one of the oldest pubs in the area, as it has been serving since 1770.  It is located right on the Green and sponsors its own cricket team, who play on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout cricket season.

  • Schools

The highest performing primary schools in the area (as measured by percentage of pupils attaining level 4 in Key Stage 2 English, Maths and Science) are St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary and The Vineyard.

Based on percentage of pupils gaining five or more GCSEs with grade A* - C, the highest performing secondary schools are Hampton School and St Catherine’s School.
