A Chestertons area guide to Kensington

Kensington b2

Welcome to Kensington

Kensington stands firm as one of London’s most desirable and prestigious residential areas.
Our two offices in Kensington deal with a wide range of properties, from stylish period conversions, apartments in desirable mansion blocks to large family houses.  Areas of particular note include the ultra exclusive Kensington Palace Gardens, often referred to as “Billionaires Row”, the Phillimore Estate, Duchess of Bedford Estate, and popular garden squares including Kensington Square, Edwardes Square  and Campden Hill Square.

  • Entertainment & nightlife

There’s no shortage of entertainment and stimulation in Kensington and its surrounds. The world famous Victoria and Albert museum, Science Museum and Natural History museum draw visitors from around the world. The elegant and regal Royal Albert Hall produces many concerts and ballet shows, both classical and contemporary.

Best places for a drink in summer

There’s a great range of drinking establishments in Kensington all of which have a lively atmosphere and benefit from great outdoor areas. Favorites include the Scarsdale Tavern on Edwardes Square, The Builders Arms on Kensington Court Place and the Windsor Castle on Campden Hill Road. For later in the evening there is the famous Kensington Roof Gardens, and ski chalet themed Bodos Schloss.

  • Parks & recreation

Kensington benefits from a variety of green open spaces. These include Kensington Gardens (home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge), Hyde Park and nearby Holland Park (famed for its summer opera). Each has a variety of recreational facilities, cafes and sports pitches.

  • Restaurants & shopping

There’s a wide selection of restaurants, bars and high end shops and boutiques to choose from in Kensington. The area’s pleasantness and great variety of shops makes it a shopping destination in its own right.

    The best place for groceries

Residents of Kensington are spoilt for choice in terms of food shopping. The Whole Foods store is the largest in the world, while there is an excellent Waitrose and Marks & Spencer food hall on the high street.

Spread along the length of Kensington Church Street, and scattered down its pretty side streets, are over 60 Antiques Dealers offering fine art and antiques from the Tang dynasty to the art deco movement.
