Welcome to Kew

Kew is a sought after, affluent area in south west London. Its village charm and quality of property makes the area popular with families and those looking to live in a relaxed environment while still having great access to central London.
Houses in Kew are typically large detached and semi-detached family homes.  Newer developments and apartment blocks are located closer to the river.
  • Large family homes
  • Good schools
  • Open space
  • Strong community feel
  • Excellent restaurants
  • Great transport links
  • Entertainment & nightlife

Kew isn’t the place to go if you’re after a big night out but the area does boast a good selection of pubs and bars, many of which make use of the area’s location close to the river. Nearby Richmond and Barnes have a cinema and theatre to enjoy.

Best place for a drink in the summer

The Coach & Horses pub serves reasonably priced drinks and has a large terrace overlooking Kew Green making it the ideal place for a drink on a summer’s evening.

Best place to catch a play

The Orange Tree Theatre in nearby Richmond hosts a number of performances throughout the year and aim to showcase unknown writers and actors. It’s a small, intimate venue.

  • Parks & recreation

The Royal Botanic Gardens, also referred to as Kew Gardens, was established in 1759 and declared a World Heritage Site in 2003. It is

one of the biggest tourist attractions in London.
The Old Deer Park is also located nearby which has a number of sporting facilities for members to enjoy. Just to the south of Kew is the expansive and majestic Richmond Park with its woods, open fields and deer park.
  • Restaurants & shopping

There are plenty of chic restaurants and pubs to choose from in Kew. On the first Sunday of every month the Kew Village Market opens for business, serving a range of artisanal food stuffs, crafts and everything in between. It’s run completely by the local community and donates a proportion of its profits to charity.

Best place for a special occasion

The Glasshouse Restaurant holds a Michelin star and has won many other industry awards. Their Chef has travelled the world acquiring expertise and skill. They also have a knowledgeable sommelier and extensive wine list. It’s a great place to go for a special occasion.

Best place to pick up a bouquet

Zita Elze is a florist with a background in interior design. In addition to providing flowers for events, she is also the creator of the ‘Living Embroidery’ Bridal Collection, a collection of bridal wear adorned in flowers.

Take a look at her blog for a bright dash of colour.

  • Schools

There’s a good variety of schools to choose from in the area. There are 4 private primary schools; Kew College, Unicorn School, Broomfield House and Kew Green Preparatory School. The local state primary schools are Darrell School, The Queens CE Primary School and Kew Riverside Primary School.
Kew House School is the local private secondary school.
  • Transport & travel

There aren’t many underground stations in this little part of the capital, but getting into central London is still easy.

Kew Gardens – District line, London Overground Services, mainline services

There are also two nearby mainline services just on the North side of the River, Kew Bridge and Chiswick. Both stations run regular services to Waterloo.  The neighbouring Richmond Station also has services to Waterloo and Stratford.

The petals were voluminous enough to be stirred by the summer breeze, and when they moved, the red, blue and yellow lights passed one over the other, staining an inch of the brown earth beneath with a spot of the most intricate colour.
