Welcome to Mortlake

Mortlake is a small area with an almost village-like atmosphere and beautiful residential streets.  There are many period homes in the area and the possibility of further development on land along the riverbank currently owned by Stag Brewery.  The area attracts attention during the famous Oxford vs Cambridge boat race, which finishes in Mortlake, giving residents a prime position to view this exciting event.
  • Historical importance
  • Finish line for the famous Oxford/Cambridge boat race
  • Pretty area
  • Friendly atmosphere
  • Likelihood of riverside development
  • Entertainment & nightlife

There are a small number of cocktail bars in Mortlake and some excellent pubs in great locations.  With a great view of the river, The Ship is a perfect spot for sunny days or evenings and an especially good place to watch the boat race finish line.  They also offer barbeque food throughout the day.

Best place for an American-style evening
The Lofty Turtle is inspired by bars of New York and Long Island.  As well as a selection of cocktails, it boasts over 60 craft beers and classic American dishes.
  • Parks & recreation

Mortlake is home to many beautiful green spaces and attracts keen joggers, dog walkers and rowing enthusiasts.  The towpath can be walked to the stunning Kew Gardens which hosts a variety of botanical events and collections.

Christmas is a particularly good time to visit these gardens, when lighting throughout the area makes the gardens magical.
  • Restaurants & shopping

There are a number of shopping opportunities in and around Mortlake. A selection of friendly restaurants and pubs offering high quality food are also in the area, including The Glasshouse and The Victoria.
    Best place for Sunday lunch
Located on Mortlake High Street, Depot is now in its third decade of providing quality food and drinks to local residents.
A cocktail and wine menu compliments classic dishes and traditional Sunday lunch.
  • Schools

St Mary Magdalen Primary School is located in Mortlake itself and is a Catholic school with an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating.  Thomson House Primary School is also local, with its site split between Mortlake and East Sheen.
In nearby East Sheen, there are more excellent schools including East Sheen Primary School, Sheen Mount and Tower House Boys School, which is a preparatory school for ages 4-13.
Notable local secondary schools include Richmond Park Academy, Ibstock Place, St Paul’s Boys and The Harrodian.
  • Transport & travel

Mortlake does not have a local tube station but the underground can be accessed from nearby Hammersmith or Richmond.  Mortlake mainline station runs between Waterloo and Reading, with trains able to take you to Waterloo in 22 minutes.

There are good transport links within the area, with the 209 bus running regularly from residential Avondale Road through Barnes Village to Hammersmith.
More active residents might choose to walk to the towpath toward Kew Gardens or in the opposite direction to Hammersmith and Putney.

There's nowhere else like London. Nothing at all anywhere.
