In Chestertons’ fifth year of supporting the Calling London Winter Coat campaign, the total number of coats received by the charity reached a record number, with over 5000 coats and fleeces collected.
With Chestertons opening its 33 branches as donation points for the campaign, around 3000 of the final 5000 coats collected, were done so via Chestertons’ branches.

Frances Manthos – founder of Calling London said: “It's been our biggest year. We surpassed our target and are thrilled so many coats came via our Chestertons public donation points (60% of all donations). Our collaboration with Chestertons has maximised our ability to collect even more coats and reach even more vulnerable people.”
Frances and Chestertons branch staff saw thousands of generous donations throughout November, all of which have now been sorted, cleaned and distributed to over 40 charities and shelters across London. One of these being Chestertons’ nominated charity: St Mungo’s, along with Crisis at Christmas and Hestia Crisis Support; plus various refugee groups, food banks and charities working in the most vulnerable communities in the city.
Chestertons’ staff worked hard throughout the month to promote the Calling London campaign, online and within their local communities, reaching out to businesses, schools and community groups.
Tim Bates, Marketing Manager and Treasurer of Chestertons’ Charity Champions, said: “We are delighted with the number of coats collected and would like to thank everyone who came to one of our offices to drop off their unwanted winter coats. A special thanks goes to Belleville School in Battersea Rise for its amazing efforts. They collected over 100 coats!”
Chestertons also involved some of their sponsored partners, including London Welsh Rugby Club. Chairman Gywn Williams reflected on the campaign: “If a high-profile company like Chestertons can use their offices all over London to help keep vulnerable people warm through the Winter Coat campaign then it is an absolute pleasure for us as a club to help and get behind it.”
As well as driving donations for Calling London, 26 members of Chestertons’ staff also volunteered to sort, clean and bag up the 5000 coats over three days, getting them ready for distribution.
Daniel Taylor, Head of Kensington Residential Sales at Chestertons, was one of those volunteers and has said: “This is the second time that I have helped out and I am delighted the campaign managed to collect a record number of coats! This year’s success is a real testament to our local communities supporting this incredibly rewarding campaign. Huge thanks must go to the founder of Calling London, Frances Manthos who organised the coat sorting weekend, without Frances this charity would not be what it is today. I strongly encourage anyone who has an unwanted winter coat or puffa jacket to donate next year”.
